Full Coverage: 'Rings' Grabs Four Golden Globe Awards
Yahoo
"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," the final installment of the epic fantasy trilogy that hadn't yet won most major movie awards, finally snared best dramatic film and three other trophies at Sunday's Golden Globes.

But some of the night's thunder also went to the intimate story "Lost in Translation," about two lonely Americans who find friendship in a Tokyo hotel. That movie collected three top awards, including best comedy film, best comedy actor for Bill Murray  — his first major acting prize — and best screenplay for Sofia Coppola, who wrote, produced and directed the film.

"Rings" master Peter Jackson was recognized as best director, and the film — based on the J.R.R. Tolkien novels — won best original score and best song for "Into the West."

"Really, I just want to accept this award and pay tribute to professor Tolkien for his incredible book," said Jackson, who began preparing to film the trilogy in 1997.

"To all of the actors, our magical cast, you just gave so much to the movies and equally importantly you made it so much fun to work on," Jackson added.

Among TV nominees, HBO's six-hour adaptation of playwright Tony Kushner's "Angels in America" won five trophies, including best miniseries or TV movie.

The Golden Globes, voted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is regarded by many in Hollywood as one of the year's biggest parties, but it's also a way to generate front-runner buzz for the Academy Awards.

The show's highlight may have been the acceptance speech by the notoriously sardonic Murray, who thanked Coppola before dryly mocking Hollywood award speeches, declaring he had fired all his agents and representatives and had no one else to thank.

He also poked fun at the idea that comedy performers are overshadowed by dramatic stars. "Too often we forget our brothers on the other side of the aisle — the dramatic actors," he said. "I'd just like to say: Where would our war, our miseries and our psychological dramas come from?"

Coppola, collecting the best screenplay trophy, thanked her father, "The Godfather" director and co-writer Francis Ford Coppola, calling him "a great screenwriting teacher."

Diane Keaton as an older woman in love in "Something's Gotta Give" collected a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy, and thanked director Nancy Myers and co-star Jack Nicholson for making a romance about people over 50. "With hope as our light at the end of the tunnel, we made our unlikely alliance work in the name of love at any age," Keaton said.

Sean Penn collected the dramatic actor award for playing an emotionally ravaged father seeking revenge for his daughter's murder in "Mystic River," and Charlize Theron won the drama actress honor for "Monster," the story of a serial killer.

Tim Robbins' supporting role as a grown child-abuse survivor suspected of murder in "Mystic River" earned him the first trophy of the telecast. Renee Zellweger received the supporting actress award for playing a tough-as-bark backwoods woman in "Cold Mountain." She previously won two Golden Globes for best actress in a musical or comedy for "Nurse Betty" in 2001 and last year for "Chicago."

Besides winning best TV movie or miniseries, "Angels in America" won four performing awards. Co-star Meryl Streep  and Al Pacino  were picked best TV movie lead performers and supporting TV honors went to Jeffrey Wright and Mary-Louise Parker.

Among the nominees Wright beat out: his "Angels in America" co-stars Ben Shenkman and Patrick Wilson. "I share this with you," he told them from the stage. "But I'll keep it at my house."

Fox's real-time thriller "24" won best drama series, and BBC America's "The Office," which stars co-creator Ricky Gervais as an annoying boss at a British paper merchant, was picked best comedy show. The critically lauded "The Office" is being developed into an American version.

"Osama," Afghanistan's first movie since the fall of the Taliban regime, won the Golden Globe for foreign-language film. The movie tells the story of a girl who, under hardline Islamic Taliban rules, has to pose as a boy so she can leave home to work.

The honorary Cecil B. DeMille (news) Award went to Michael Douglas, whose actor father, Kirk Douglas, received the honor in 1968. "My father couldn't make it here tonight, but if Kirk was here I would acknowledge him for his stamina, for his endurance and for his great sense of material," Douglas said.

Faith Evans And Her Husband Arrested For Drug Possession
MTV
Singer Faith Evans and her husband, manager/producer Todd Russaw, were arrested Tuesday night in the Atlanta suburb of Hapeville for possession of marijuana and cocaine.

Evans' 2003 Hummer H2 was pulled over at about 8 p.m. Tuesday after police noticed that the car's temporary tag was missing an expiration date, according to a spokesperson for the Hapeville Police Department. After smelling burnt marijuana, police searched the vehicle.

The couple spent the night at the Fulton County Jail and appeared in court at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning (January 28), where they were charged with possession of cocaine and less than one ounce of marijuana, a spokesperson for the Fulton County Sheriff's Department said. Evans was also charged with an improper tag violation.

Each faces possible prison time for the cocaine charge, a felony in Georgia. Possession of less than one ounce of marijuana in the state is a misdemeanor, carrying a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine and one year in jail.

Evans and Russaw are due back in court on February 4.

Russaw, who manages R&B trio 702, is listed as associate or executive producer on albums by Evans and 702.

Evans appeared alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. in last year's "The Fighting Temptations." She recently moved to the Atlanta area.

Brandy's Brother Joining B2K, Group's Business Partners Say
MTV
Nobody, not even J-Boog, Raz-B or Lil Fizz, was sure if B2K could function as a trio. Now it looks like they don't have to find out, because B2K are once again a foursome.

According to Boog, Raz and Fizz's business partners, Brandy's younger brother, Ray J, will replace former lead singer Omarion, who left earlier this month.

A label spokesperson for B2K had no knowledge of the roster addition.

Omarion — while in New York recently with Marques Houston promoting B2K's upcoming film, "You Got Served" — said he's had a bit of a change of heart since making statements about the group being over.

"In the future, I hope we do get back together. I would definitely want to do that [once any solo projects are over]. I think the people would enjoy it," Omarion told MTV News.

Meanwhile, O is starting work on his untitled album, due this spring. Omarion said fans can expect something different than what they heard from him as part of a quartet.

"I'm gonna ... speak on some personal issues. Do a lot more issues. I'm gonna take on the whole business side of it this time around. I'm 19 years old, I think it's more important this time in my career that I'm involved a lot more."

Part of speaking on personal issues means addressing his departure from B2K in his music. "Most definitely," he said, "because it was critical time in my life."

No official word has come from B2K yet about when their first music with Ray J will surface, but another source working with the camp said they have a track on tap produced by R. Kelly.

O-Town's Angel Ready To Spread His Wings With Solo LP
MTV
LOS ANGELES — O-Town broke up in November not only because some members wanted to go solo, but because they needed to — at least if they wanted to make money.

"Unfortunately, as O-Town, we had to sign a lot of contracts that weren't in our best interest as artists, coming together the way we did on a TV show," Ashley Parker Angel revealed recently. "There just came a time where we knew it was that time to step off and pursue those individual goals, and that's where we're at right now, but we remain the best of friends ... and it was the best launching pad any of us could have ever wished for."

Ashley is one of the singers going solo, along with Erik-Michael Estrada, and he said he's looking forward to breaking through the boundaries he felt constrained by in O-Town.

"I play guitar and I grew up playing the piano as well," he explained. "I didn't get to do that a lot before in O-Town — it was a lot more singing and dancing — so I'm really excited to primarily be onstage with a guitar and a piano and being able to have a hand in the writing of every song on the album."

Angel is writing his album now and plans to record it in the spring for release later in the year. "A lot of things happened in the last few years that I'm really excited to write about," he said. "It's given me tons of inspiration."

Clif Magness, who has worked with Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken, as
well as on O-Town's O2, is producing Angel's album.

"He works a lot more on the alternative rock end of the music industry, and I'm really excited to get together and just vibe with him," Ashley said. "I wrote a few songs with him before on the last album, but it's a complete departure really ... so we'll see as it starts to evolve and it starts to take on its own shape."

In the meantime, Angel has kept busy watching his favorite MTV show.

"I've got to be a fan of 'Making the Band 2,' I had to watch it, of course. I mean, that's where I came from. And P. Diddy stepped in and he changed it up, which was very interesting to watch. That's one of the reality TV shows I did watch. Other than that, I can't quite watch those shows anymore."

Avril Lavigne calls Britney Spears a "b*tch"
www.wildwritings.com
In the latest edition of NME magazine, Avril talks about the fact that she loves to say the word f*ck, why Good Charlotte couldn't use an old-aged Avril look-a-like in their 'Girls and Boys' video and Britney Spears. When she talks about her DVD, 'My World', Avril says: "There was this part where I'm in this private jet and I put the pilot's headset on. It looked just like the headsets Britney Spears used to use, so I started singing 'Oops! I Did It Again'. It was hilarious! And then she wouldn't let me use it... B*tch!" The magazine is out now.

Kelly Osbourne slams Hilton Sisters.. and Christina!
www.wildwritings.com
While Kelly Osbourne admits that she owes her burgeoning music career and fame to her father Ozzy Osbourne, she's had to work for her solo success unlike Paris and Nicky Hilton. She explained, "The Hilton sisters, Pierce Brosnan's sons - the 'do nothing but party and get photographed' set. I couldn't imagine life without getting up in the morning and having a job to do. It would be so shallow. I'm not one of those 'don't you know who my father is?' people. The thing is, anyone who has more than they need is spoilt - if you own even one unnecessary item, you're spoilt. Even so, that doesn't make me a brat. People like Christina Aguilera are brats."

Diddy, Nelly, Kid Rock Added To Super Bowl Halftime Show
www.wildwritings.com
Are you ready for some football? If your name is P. Diddy, Nelly or Kid Rock, the answer is "yes." While fans have to wait until Sunday to find out who'll play in this year's Super Bowl, they don't have to wait any longer to find out who'll play at halftime.

The three will meet at the 50-yard line for the AOL Top Speed Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime performance, joining the previously announced Janet Jackson on February 1 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Classical singer Josh Groban will perform during pre-game festivities, followed by Beyoncé, a Houston native, who'll kick off the event by singing the national anthem.

The game will air on CBS, and MTV will produce the halftime show. In 2001 MTV produced the halftime show for Super Bowl XXXV, where the Baltimore Ravens beat the New York Giants at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

This will be Nelly's second time performing at the event. He took part in the 2001 halftime show, which also featured performances by Aerosmith and 'NSYNC along with special guests Britney Spears and Mary J. Blige.

Justin Timberlake Accused of saying the 'N' Word
www.wildwritings.com
A former *NSYNC employee has filed suit against the group in the New York State Supreme Court, County of New York.

In the 18-page complaint, *NSYNC members Justin R. Timberlake, James L. Bass, Joshua S. Chasez, Christopher A. Kirkpatrick, Joseph A. Fatone, Jr., Zeeks, Inc., *NSYNC Inc. and Skeez, LLC are being sued for $10 million by Ibrahim Duarte for their discriminatory decision to terminate his employment as *NSYNC's tour manager.

The complaint alleges that when the band achieved popularity and financial success, the band member's verbal use of racial slurs towards Duarte and other African American employees became more frequent, and even reached a point where Justin Timberlake used the 'N' word towards Duarte.

The 22-year-old singer is said to have insulted Duarte by telling him: "You n--gers ain't
s--t."

Interestingly, *NSYNC and Timberlake is managed by Wright Entertainment Group, which is headed by Johnny Wright, an African American. However, Duarte says he was let go after *NSYNC's No Strings Attached tour in 2000 because *NSYNC was ashamed of having a black "front man" - and was replaced by a white man with "significantly less experience."

"This was not the first time that the band had mistreated me. They still owe more than $155,000 in unpaid salary and per diem. Hopefully this lawsuit will help them realize that they can't step on people they feel are below them, " said Duarte.

Ben Affleck: Dating J.Lo Has Ruined my Career.
The Sun
Hollywood hunk Ben Affleck has confessed that dating Jennifer Lopez has ruined his career. The Oscar-winning actor reckons his high-profile romance with the Latino diva has wrecked his box office clout and turned his fans against him.

Ben moaned: “My relationship with Jennifer has absolutely been bad for my career. The over- exposure this year has been really damaging." “The combination of me and Jennifer as a unit became more important than the parts we did in movies. It’s not good when everybody knows everything about you - the mystique disappears. The whole world knew what we were doing on a daily basis."

“They wrote that we had bought jeans for half a million dollars. It made people think bad about us. But it’s not important. People who regard that as important have lost their soul.”

Oh really? Can this possibly be the same Ben Affleck who invited cameras into his home so they could film him and J-Lo pottering about their kitchen together?

The couple - who got engaged in October 2002 after just a few months together - were interviewed at their rented lakeside pad near Vancouver in Canada in July.

Viewers were treated to clips of the loved-up pair cooking and mucking about together in a picture of domestic bliss. Cringe-worthy moments included them finishing each other’s sentences and talking over one another.

Talk about hypocrisy.

Ben added that he is relieved he called off his wedding to J-Lo in September and has no idea when they will set another date. And he reckons J-Lo - who has been married twice before - was unfairly blamed for cancelling the big day. He said: “It was a good decision. But Jennifer was the one that took all the blows. She was blamed for being divorced twice and then for calling off the wedding."

“It’s a double standard. As a man in Hollywood you’re expected to have 17 marriages, 18 children and lots of lovers." "Jennifer has only been with seven men in her entire life."

He added: “I don’t know when we are getting married.”

Ben and Jen co-starred in the romantic comedy Gigli, which was a massive box
office flop.

Fearing other movies starring Ben would also bomb, Disney chiefs pulled the plug on his next offering, Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past, claiming publicity over his on-off wedding had “tarnished” his image.

Ben, there’s only one way to get rid of your problem - get rid of the fat-bottomed girl

'Return of the King' Makes $245M World Debut!
www.wildwritings.com
Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King dominated the box office in every aspect. The conclusion to the trilogy pulled in $72.6 million from Friday-to-Sunday from 3,703 theaters and averaged a big $19,613 per location. The New Line film has earned a massive $125.1 million since opening on Wednesday.

"The Return of the King" had the biggest opening for a film on a Wednesday with $34.5 million, which is also the 4th highest single day in box office history. It is now the biggest December opener ever with $73.6 million for the weekend, surpassing "The Two Towers" ($62 million) and "The Fellowship of the Ring" ($47.2 million). "King" performed 24% better than its predecessor "The Two Towers," which opened with $102 million on year ago.
The 5-day haul ranks as the best for a Wednesday release, surpassing the $105 million set by Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace  in 1999. The film is the 4th fastest to reach the $100 million mark, had the 7th biggest weekend total ever, has moved up to #178 on the all-time domestic blockbuster list in just five days and is instantly the 14th biggest film of 2003.

Overseas, "The Return of the King" had an incredible Wednesday making $23.5 million in 17 territories. The film set new opening records in 15 of those 17 territories. The film has earned $121 million internationally from 28 territories in just its first five days. That puts it at $246.1 million worldwide! Check out more movie reviews here.

Britney Spears Married in Vegas
People
Just when you thought you'd seen it all from Britney Spears, the pop princess, 22, has gotten married -- at a little Vegas chapel, wearing a baseball cap, to a childhood friend, sources close to the singer say. A hotel bellman walked her down the aisle.
But before you make any plans to send wedding gifts, a source close to the pop star insists it was all a joke that went too far, and that Spears is already making plans to annul the marriage.

Says someone close to Spears: "I don't know what's going through her mind."

Spears's husband -- at least for the time being -- is named Jason Allen Alexander, and, like the singer, is from Kentwood, La. The two tied the knot early Saturday morning in Las Vegas at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip, sources tell PEOPLE.

The wedding plan was apparently hatched Friday night while Spears and Alexander were partying at Ghostbar, the hip club in the Palms Casino Hotel. The club's bouncers got word that Spears wanted a limo. One of the hotel's lime-green limos was provided, being driven by a hotel bellman, who shuttled the couple to the Little White Wedding Chapel, a famous quick-hitch place where everybody from Dixie Chick Natalie Maines to Bruce and Demi have tied the knot.

Chapel staff told the couple that they couldn't get married without a license, so the pair was taken by the limo to the Clark County Marriage Bureau office in the downtown Las Vegas courthouse at some point after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. They applied for and were granted the marriage license, then rode back to the chapel, where they were married.

Spears wore jeans and a baseball cap. Alexander had on a casual shirt. The bellman walked Spears down the aisle. There were no friends or family in attendance.

The whole thing was videotaped by the chapel, and Spears has been showing the world's craziest wedding video to friends.

"I don't even know if she loves him," says a source.

The honeymoon, such as it was, took place back at a luxury suite at the Palms immediately after the wedding. Then, Saturday night, Spears dined with her manager, her brother, Palms owner George Maloof and a couple of friends at a hotel steakhouse.

Little is known about Alexander. A source says that he and Spears were childhood friends who recently hooked up -- then hitched up. They had spent New Year's Eve together at the hotel's Rain nightclub, then retired to the suite.

Louis Vuitton Dumps J.Lo for 'Pulling a Wynonna.'

The Sun has more details on Jennifer Lopez not being re-upped by Louis Vuitton after causing chaos on one of their photo shoots, where she walked away with thousands of dollars in free merchandise. "There is an unwritten understanding that whenever someone does one of our shoots they can help themselves to a few things," a source on the Paris set revealed. "These are pieces they have worn and really taken a shine to. But Jennifer totally went to town and pretty much emptied the studio. She got her entourage to bag up
items worth thousands. She took shoes, dresses, bags - everything. An assistant went down the row of tables and loaded up duffle bags. Around ten minutes later everyone was standing around in shock when they got a call from Jennifer’s people - she’d forgotten a pair of socks."

Is It a Good Thing for Jessica Simpson to play "Dumb?"
www.wildwritings.com
Jessica Simpson is no dummy, but she plays one on MTV’s reality series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. I met and interviewed her a little over four years ago when her debut, Sweet Kisses, was about to come out and the then 19-year-old was extremely articulate about everything from her difficult teen years to her hunger for a place among Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

So why the dumb act? Simple. Ratings. And ratings equals publicity. And publicity equals stardom --something that has, prior to the series, eluded the fledgling singer. In fact, during its first season, the series became the second highest rated cable program behind Sex and the City, attracting about 2.4 million viewers every week, and Simpson knows her absent-minded thoughts and actions have been the reason.
